Prawns Biryani

For those regularly following my blog, you know what a lunatic I am for prawns. To not have a prawns biryani recipe for you guys would totally be uncalled for. So let’s dig in shall we?


For marination


· 1 kg Prawns cleaned and washed · 1 cup yogurt · 2 tbsp lemon juice · ½ tbsp ginger garlic paste · 5-6 chopped green chillies · 1 ½ tbsp red chilli powder · 1 tsp turmeric · 1 tsp garam masala · Salt to taste

For the rice

5-6 Black pepper corns 4-5 cloves 1 cinnamon stick 4-5 cardamom 1 tsp oil Salt Chopped coriander leaves 1 large onion sliced 2 tspn ghee Orange/ yellow food colour (optional) Cooking oil Method:


1. Add all the ingredients and leave the prawns to marinate for about 2 hours. 2. Saute the prawn mixture on medium flame until cooked and crispy 3. Fry the chopped onions until golden brown and mix them with the cooked prawn mixture. 4. Bring the rice to boil with black pepper corns, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and salt 5. In a large cooking pot, grease the bottom with cooking oil and layer some rice. Add the rest of the fried onions and some chopped coriander. 6. Layer the prawn mixture evenly with another layer of rice on top. 7. Garnish using chopped coriander, mint leaves, fried onions and 2 tspn of ghee. Add food colouring if you wish to. 8. On low flame, cover the cooking pot with a lid and allow the biryani to simmer for about 5-7 minutes.
