Biryani is whole story on it’s own. There are countless versions of this dish considering the vast diversity of our country and every type of biryani carries it’s own aura. It definitely takes a good amount of practise to get that biryani taste tremendously delicious. Here’s an easy recipe for you beginners to try. Happy Cooking!
Ingredients
For the marinade
· 1 kg chicken
· For the marinade:
· 4 tsp ginger garlic paste
· 1 cup curd
· 2 tsp red chilli powder
· 1 tsp turmeric powder
· 2 tsp coriander powder
· 2 tsp garam masala powder
· 2 ½ tsp salt or as per taste
· 5 potatoes
For the rice:
· 2 cups white basmati rice
· 4 cups water
· 7 cardamoms
· 1 cinnamon stick
· 5 cloves
· Couple of black pepper corns
· 1 tsp salt
· 1 cup milk
· Pinch of saffron
· Ghee, Chopped coriander leaves, 2 onions chopped as sclices
Method
1. Marinate the chicken well with all the ingredients mentioned above and leave it covered in a dish for about 6 hours.
2. Fry the potatoes and chopped onion slices until golden brown and keep aside.
3. In a cooking pot add the rice, water and all spices given. Bring the rice to bowl.
4. While the rice is being cooked, in another pot on medium flame cook the marinated chicken. Add some water to prevent burning of the ingredients.
5. Select a vessel to prepare you biryani in and begin layering it. At the bottom layer some rice. Garnish with fried onions.
6. The next layer will be your cooked chicken. This should be followed by another layer of rice. Garnish with coriander leaves and fried onions again. Repeat the same for one more layer. Pour a cup of milk over the rice. Garnish the top most layer with the remaining onions, coriander leaves and ofcourse some Ghee.
7.Cover the pot with a lid and allow the biryani to cook on low heat for 15-25 minutes minutes. (cover with foil)
